ESL Friday Outreach
The First Friday ESL Outreach was an incredible experience for our students.
Though excited, many were a bit nervous since English is not their first language. Stepping out to speak with the community required courage, but the students trusted God—and He certainly worked through them.
For their first outreach, they conducted a community survey, offering services like lawn care, cooking classes, home maintenance, prayer, Bible studies, etc. As a result, they were able to pray with people, connect with those interested in the services, and even help someone with yard work that same day.
This experience reminds us that ministry success comes not from our own abilities, but from God’s power. As Ellen G. White writes, “We need to have far less confidence in what man can do, and far more confidence in what God can do… Put your talents into the work, ask God for wisdom, and it will be given you” (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 146).
It was a blessing to see God use them despite the language barrier to reach the community.
English for Mission Program
The English for Mission Journey has officially begun! This program was designed to equip missionaries with one of the most powerful tools for global mission—language.
Here at Streams of Light Training Institute, we’re doing more than simply teaching English. Our goal is to prepare missionaries to communicate clearly, connect with people from different cultures, and share the message of hope more effectively. Language opens doors for conversation, friendship, service, and ultimately the opportunity to share the gospel.
Through this program, students are strengthening their ability to speak, understand, and use English in real-life situations. Each lesson is another step toward greater confidence as they prepare to serve in communities where English can help bridge cultural and linguistic barriers.
As these students continue their journey, we are excited to see how God will use their voices to preach, their hearts to serve, and their lives to reach many souls for Jesus.
Students in Service
On what could have simply been a day off, these students chose something more meaningful—they chose to serve. Traveling to Grand Rapids, they spent the day assisting with renovation work at a local church, offering both their time and their energy to support the mission.
Throughout the day, they rolled up their sleeves and got to work learning hands-on construction skills. From installing ceiling grid to hanging drywall, each task became an opportunity not only to build practical knowledge but also to contribute to something larger than themselves.
Ministry isn’t limited to preaching a sermon or leading a Bible study. Sometimes it looks like tools in hand, teamwork, and a willingness to serve where help is needed most. These students turned their free time into an opportunity to strengthen a place that serves its community, and their efforts will leave a lasting impact.
Revived and Ready for Mission
And just like that, the second Comprehensive Evangelism Course is underway! This remarkable group of students has answered God’s call, leaving family, jobs, and comfort behind to come to the Streams of Light Training Institute and learn mission by doing mission.
Before launching fully into their mission training, the program opened with a vibrant Week of Revival, centered on the theme of Creation. This special time focused on grounding each student deeply in Christ, equipping them with a clear sense of purpose, and preparing their hearts and minds for the work ahead.
Each evening, students were inspired by uplifting messages from the SOLTI leadership team and spent meaningful time in prayer. A special dedication prayer marked the start of their journey, asking that the Holy Spirit fill each student and use them in mighty ways.
These students are eager and ready to learn, and already we can see God’s hand at work in their lives as they embark on this exciting, mission-filled adventure.
Bread Making Class in Action
Ever wanted to learn how to make bread? Just within the first two weeks of the program, students began exploring the art of bread making in their special class. As Ellen White writes, “Bread is the real staff of life, and therefore every cook should excel in making it” (CD 315.3).
In the first semester, students get the opportunity to do just that—once a week, they learn to make bread from freshly milled wheat berries. This isn’t the kind of bread you’ll find at the store. It’s homemade, fresh, tasty, and wholesome!
Beyond learning a practical skill, bread making teaches patience, attention to detail, and the joy of creating something nourishing from start to finish. Each loaf becomes a reminder of God’s provision and the value of hands-on learning in everyday life.
First Friday Outreach!
The new class of 2026 launched their first day of outreach with excitement and eagerness! Students were ready to hit the field, knock on doors, and share truth-filled literature with the local community.
Even though it was cold and snowy, they didn't allow that to stop them. With faith and determination, they went forward to reach souls for Jesus.
During their first Friday outreach, students had the opportunity to meet practical needs just as Jesus did—shoveling snow off roofs, helping wash dishes, and more. Beyond acts of service, they also prayed with the people they met, sharing encouragement and God’s love.
This first day set the tone for the semester: a hands-on, heart-focused approach to ministry where students learn by serving, connecting, and witnessing God’s work in the community.
Young Adults in the Word: Exploring the Three Angels' Messages
What began as an idea soon became a reality. From the start, the Kentwood team planned to start a young adult Bible study group—and it was going to be anything but typical.
Once a week for about 17 weeks, students led out in studying the three angels’ messages in Revelation 14, breaking down each verse point by point. They discussed topics such as Fearing God, Giving Him Glory, The Hour of His Judgment, and more. This study proved to be a great learning experience, not only for community members who joined the sessions but for the students as well.
The pen of inspiration reminds us: “The theme of greatest importance is the third angel’s message, embracing the messages of the first and second angels. All should understand the truths contained in these messages and demonstrate them in daily life, for this is essential to salvation. We shall have to study earnestly, prayerfully, in order to understand these grand truths; and our power to learn and comprehend will be taxed to the utmost.” (Letter 97, 1902)
Through this Bible study, both students and participants were challenged, inspired, and equipped to live out these truths in their daily lives.
Let's Go Pray Outside!
At the start of the second semester, students stepped more fully into hands-on ministry—following up on Bible study interests, giving studies, knocking on doors, and serving throughout Grand Rapids. As they saw the magnitude of the work before them, they became increasingly aware of their deep need for prayer.
One evening, the students gathered with a single purpose: to seek God together. United in heart, they brought their requests before Him, asking for wisdom, strength, and the outpouring of His Spirit. They recognized that the mission ahead could not be accomplished in their own power.
Praying outdoors made the experience even more meaningful. Surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation, they were reminded of His love, faithfulness, and nearness. In that quiet setting, their faith was strengthened and their dependence on Him renewed.
What began as a simple prayer meeting became a sacred moment of unity and surrender—preparing their hearts for the work ahead.
The Pioneer Class Dedication Week
The dedication of the pioneer class was truly a special moment. After months of learning, growing, and laboring faithfully for the Lord, the journey of the pioneer class in the Comprehensive Evangelism Course has come to a close, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
This dedication week was especially meaningful because more than half of the students chose to recommit their lives to Christ through baptism. Throughout the program, students not only reached hearts in the community, but experienced God working powerfully in their own lives as well.
One student shared, “Over and over again, I’ve thought, ‘Wow, it doesn’t feel like I’m at the Streams of Light Training Institute anymore. It feels like I’m in God’s school—for me, for my character refinement.”
God worked individually in each student’s life, teaching personal lessons and preparing them for the next steps in their mission journey. What began as a course became something far greater: a season of transformation, surrender, and renewal.
Want to Teach a Natural Remedies Class?
The Lowell team came together to host a vibrant community event on natural remedies, and the focus was one of God’s simplest gifts: hydrotherapy!
Participants learned the basic physiology behind water treatments and watched practical demonstrations—everything from the Russian steam bath to the hot foot bath, ice massage, and steam inhalation. The energy was high, and the interest was genuine—especially when people got to try the ice massage for themselves!
Ellen White wrote, “Water treatments, wisely and skillfully given, may be the means of saving many lives.” (MM 229). She also counseled, “In every place the sick may be taught how to use for themselves nature’s simple remedies.” (MH 127). This is exactly what happened—simple methods, faithfully taught, opening hearts and minds to God’s healing ways.
It was a joy to see some of the community engaged, and the event closed with fresh excitement for the God's simple methods of healing. The seeds planted through this class will continue to grow, opening doors for both physical healing and spiritual conversations.
Rejoicing with Tears!
"We had a powerful Bible study tonight! 🙏🙌🔥 They accepted the Sabbath and shared how thankful they were that someone had knocked on their door!"
For three months Ivan had been faithfully meeting with this contact, though busy work schedules often made it difficult. Still, every study was powerful—the contact loved the lessons and hungered for more. Then came the breakthrough: after attending the student-led hydrotherapy classes, their heart opened wider. They began asking for Bible study after Bible study and even signed up for the evangelistic series.
The newest Bible study lesson was on the Sabbath—a make-or-break topic!!! But just a few days before, Ivan had to leave for a mission trip to Calgary, Canada. Not wanting to lose the momentum, Jennifer and Alyssa stepped in to lead the study. And while Ivan was away, the text came in: the contact had joyfully embraced the Sabbath truth. His heart overflowed with gratitude and awe at the goodness of God. Praise God!!
Since then, they’ve been growing beautifully, accepting truth point by point. Not only have they committed to attending the evangelistic series, but they’ve also been faithfully coming to church and even volunteered to help greet at the series!
Please keep this precious soul in your prayers—God is moving in mighty ways!
The Evangelistic Series Is One Week Away
As the reality sank in that we are only one week away from the evangelistic series at all the students’ churches, a holy solemnity rested on us. This is the very moment we have labored for, prayed for, and fasted for. These past three months—45+ hours each week of laboring with souls—were all leading to this point.
The week will be filled with urgent follow-ups, personal visits, and heartfelt phone calls, inviting contacts to take their stand and attend. But above all, we’ve sensed the deeper need: to prepare spiritually. The students agreed that just as we began the semester in seasons of earnest prayer, we must now press forward with even greater prayer.
Each day leading up to the series, students are holding two-hour prayer vigils, interceding for their contacts by name. On Thursday, the day before opening night, they will fast together and join in a longer prayer vigil, seeking heaven’s blessing and power.
With eternity at stake and an open door before us, we have no other choice but to run to God.
Preparing Our Hearts for Mission
As the pioneer class closes their first semester, they’re stepping into their biggest assignment yet: organizing and leading a mission trip in Grand Rapids—their mission field for the next five months. Alongside the trip, they’re also helping host Messiah’s Mansion, a life-sized sanctuary exhibit that will draw in hundreds from the community.
But the mission doesn’t end there. After the events, students will begin months of follow-up—giving Bible studies, building relationships, and working alongside church members to prepare souls for baptism. All of this leads to the Pentecost 2025 evangelistic series, where they hope to see many of these contacts fully commit their lives to Jesus.
With such a harvest ahead, the students recognized their deep need for God. So they dedicated a full week to prayer—two hours each day, and seven on Friday—asking for hearts ready to serve and for God to move in power. Because before lives are changed, hearts must first be surrendered.
Bringing Hope Across Borders
Nine days. Two countries. Countless divine appointments. From Liechtenstein’s mountain villages to Stuttgart’s bustling streets, the students approached each mission moment with purpose and prayer. This was a key part of their training—it challenged them to distribute The Great Controversy across language and cultural barriers, to seize opportunity, and to adapt to obstacles as they came.
Each location brought unique challenges—and fresh opportunities. In Liechtenstein, students partnered with a local church, distributing literature and making new connections in a place where the Adventist presence is nearly absent. In Stuttgart, they worked alongside the Baden-Württemberg SDA Conference to distribute books and gather Bible study interests across the city. The logistics varied greatly—from culture and ethnicity to the contrast of driving alpine roads versus catching trains and walking for outreach!
The outcome? Over 6,000 books distributed, dozens of Bible study interests, and open doors for continued work in both areas. Churches are already building on the foundation the students helped lay.
Now… next stop: Grand Rapids!
Recap from the Grand Rapids Mission Trip
Seven days. 30,000 books. 80 volunteers. One city—Grand Rapids. As the students stepped into this new phase of ministry, they each took ownership of their role. Aaron led the team with steady direction, while Ivan and Jennifer managed logistics. Media was handled by Allissa, Alyssa, and Cherith, Janet led out in music, and Sienna coordinated follow-up. Nearly every student also served as a driver.
Each day focused on a different church territory—areas the students will continue to serve throughout the semester. As literature went out, follow-up began immediately. Within 30 minutes to an hour of each Bible study request, a team made up of local pastors and students was already at the door.
The outcome? Over 560 people signed up for personal Bible studies through the mission trip and Messiah’s Mansion. Now, the work continues—students and churches are launching full-time follow-up efforts, praying for lasting fruit. As one of of the staff put it, “God has allowed us to gather the berries—now we’re asking Him to help us take care of them.”
The Joy of Service
One of the beautiful things about life at SOLTI is the spirit of community. The student body was invited to help a staff member move into their new place—and without hesitation, they jumped into action. In less than 15 minutes, every box, bin, and piece of furniture was inside the house!
But the help didn’t stop there. About five students stayed afterward to assemble furniture, set up the dining table, arrange chairs, and turn the house into a home. The atmosphere was full of laughter, hymn singing, and joy. It was one of those simple, quiet moments of service that reminded us: mission isn’t always about going far—it’s about showing up with love, right where you are.
Let's Go for a 24 Mile Bike Ride this Sunday
At SOLTI, we’ve been looking for ways to stay active and take care of our health between classes and outreach. Earlier this week, a spontaneous idea turned into one of the most memorable workouts yet—a 24-mile bike ride from campus to Lake Michigan and back! The beach is about 12 miles away, and after the ride there, we decided to take it up a notch with a cold plunge in the lake (yes, the water was around 42 degrees!). Refreshed—and slightly frozen—we hopped back on our bikes and rode all the way home. It was challenging, invigorating, and a reminder that growth happens when we step out of our comfort zones—physically and spiritually.
Let’s have a prayer vigil this Sunday from 4:00 AM–8:00 AM
At 4:00 AM this past Sunday, our SOLTI family gathered early, united by one purpose—to seek God's wisdom and power for the mission ahead. In just a few months, we’ll be in Grand Rapids, working full-time to share the gospel alongside local churches. The weight of the calling is pressing heavily on our hearts. For four hours, we pleaded for God’s strength, wisdom, and boldness, surrendering ourselves fully to His will. It was a powerful reminder that true success begins on our knees. Please keep us in prayer as we step forward, trusting Him to lead every step.
The Night We Tried to make 1,000 Empanadas
Sometimes feeding a group of hungry young adults can feel like an impossible mission. To help the kitchen team, the SOLTI students pitched in one night with an ambitious goal—make 1,000 empanadas! It was a sight to see: dough being rolled, stuffed, crimped, and baked, all while laughing, singing, and working together. Needless to say, we didn’t quite hit 1,000—haha—but the experience was priceless. Mission life isn’t just about preaching and giving Bible studies; it’s about learning to serve others in the simple, everyday moments too.
Taking the Time to Grow
Meet Jennifer—a young adult who has made the decision to fully follow Jesus and dedicate her life to His service. Amid the busyness of campus life at SOLTI—between classes, work, outreach, and extracurricular activities—Jennifer stands out as an inspiration.
While it's easy to get swept up in a packed schedule, Jennifer intentionally separates herself from the noise to prioritize personal time with God. Whether it's finding a quiet corner for prayer, rising early for devotional time, or setting aside moments during the day to reconnect with her Savior, she reminds us that true growth doesn’t happen by accident—it’s a choice.
Can You Do a Church Training in Detroit This Weekend?
Ivan, Janet, Jennifer, and Alissa were originally planning to attend another church training that weekend—but everything changed with one phone call. A pastor from Detroit reached out last-minute: “Can you please come preach, train, and lead my church in outreach this Sabbath?”
Within minutes, the whole plan shifted. Instead of splitting up for two local outreaches, the team quickly reorganized and sent our Spanish-speaking students to serve in Detroit. Despite the sudden change in logistics, God worked it all out. Over the weekend, our students served at three churches and helped impact more than 1,500 families with truth-filled literature and personal invitations.
Revived for Mission
Before our students can effectively reach the cities with the gospel, they must first experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Revived for Mission was a powerful series of meetings held during the students' first week on campus, designed to ignite spiritual revival, inspire total surrender, and prepare hearts for impactful ministry. Throughout this transformative week, many students made life-changing commitments, including decisions for rebaptism and rededication to Christ and His mission.
Who Would Like to Exercise at 5:00am?
Life as a mission school student is packed with activity—personal devotions in the morning, breakfast at 7:00 AM, group worship at 8:00 AM, classes from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, work from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, plus outreach and homework. With such a full schedule, it’s easy to overlook an essential aspect of life: health. Recognizing this need, Ivan, fueled by his passion for running, challenged the entire class to commit to a consistent group exercise routine.
Combining Manual Labor with Class
The first few weeks have been packed with hands-on learning! Afternoons have been spent organizing tool shops, warehouses, and sheds in preparation for seven renovation and remodeling projects scheduled for the first semester. Alongside this, students have also been learning fundamental principles of agriculture. By combining manual labor with classroom instruction, they are developing both practical skills and a strong work ethic for mission service.
